Hot Green Tea Latte

Hot Green Tea Latte

Now here's a drink which is a must to order. The Hot Green Tea Latte (RM 9.90) exude a sweet aroma with a smooth texture which will leave you wanting for more after the first sip, and if it's a little too sweet for some, a glass for water is served along with the green tea latte to dilute the sweetness.

Iced Dolcetto, Iced Latte, Iced Green Tea Latte

Coffee lovers are also invited to enjoy the Ice Dolcetto (RM 12.90) also known as Dolce Latte which uses evaporated milk to brew the coffee. Or if you do not have a sweet tooth, you can opt for the Iced Latte (RM 12.90)

For someone who loves anything with green tea, I decided to try out the Iced Green Tea Latte (RM 12.90) which has the same sweet aroma and smoothness.

With all the competitions of Bed & Breakfast Cafes/Heritage Cafe and Restaurant, Cafe Owners will have to take the cafe culture to the next level, and The Safe Room has done it by introducing the first Liquid Nitrogen Ice Cream in Penang. What can be more intriguing to present food with a touch of "GAS"?

Lots of cakes and desserts with unique flavours!

Table Number Sign

After placing our orders, we were given our table order number that is painted on a bird figurine.

Rose Cheesecake

Rose Cheesecake

We were initially feeling skeptical and dubious when we saw the Rose Cheesecake, wondering would a Rose-flavoured Cheesecake taste good? But we decided to have a go with it and there were no regrets in it. The Rose Cheesecake (RM 12.90) exude a perfect aroma of Rose and with it's soft texture of cheese, the Rose Cheesecake makes it to one of the best cheesecakes I've ever had.

Mango Liquid Nitrogen Ice Cream

Now here comes the Mango Liquid Nitrogen Ice Cream (RM 12.90), first of its kind in Penang, Ice cream that are made out purely from fresh blended fruits and fresh milk, which allows you to enjoy each spoon of ice cream without guilt!
With each spoonful, you can chew on pieces of mango cuts and when it is slightly melted, it has a yogurt texture which makes it creamy and smooth.
Highly Recommended!

Coconut Liquid Nitrogen Ice Cream

Although I'm not a big fan of coconut, I decided to try out the Signature Coconut Liquid Nitrogen Ice Cream (RM 15.90), with the same smooth and creamy texture, I grew to like coconut with each spoonful I had.

Lego Figurine

Lego Figurine

Fans of Ernest Zacharevic will be familiar with his street art/mural, and the above lego figurines brings back the memory of his murals in Johor which created a controversy and was removed, but someone has found a way to replicate the mural by making large paper print outs and pasted it at Ah Quee Street in Penang.
Now, you have it right here in The Safe Room, which I can make a story out of it, the lady spotted the burglar entering the house, hence she decided to keep her valuables in none other than The Safe Room!

The Safe Room

Here's a look at the Safe Room where you can place love locks on the man made tree!

Many would agree with this sign especially for food lovers like me!
You cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if you have not dined well!
That's for sure!

Penang has added another cafe/bar/restaurant to the list of places to visit for a meal.
The newly opened Hillside Cafe serves English/American cuisine for breakfast, lunch and Dinner. Located at a convenient area in Tanjung Bungah, the Hillside Cafe is mainly packed with expats, tourists, as well as locals from the neighbourhood.

The Works

The Works

The Works (RM 19.50) is one of their signature dishes, serving English Breakfast ingredients which consists of Sausage, Bacon slice, two eggs, slice of tomato, and finished off with Heinz Beans with Chunky piece of toast.

Both the sausage and bacon were cooked to perfection, however I would prefer the eggs to be slightly runny and not well-cooked.

Croissant

You can also opt for a light meal with the Croissant (RM 6.90) served with preserves and butter.

Traditional British Fish and Chips

Here at The Hillside Cafe, the Traditional British Fish and Chips (RM 22.00) deep fries Tilapia fish in Golden Beer Batter and served with homemade chunky chips with a side of salad.

BLT

You can hardly go wrong with the famous BLT (RM 17.00), which is served with succulent slices of bacon, tomatoes, crispy green lettuce topped with Dijon mayonaise dressing in an English muffin and a side of chips and salad (to ease the guilt of too much bacon and meat)

The Healthy Start

How about something healthy to start off the day? You can opt for the Healthy Start (RM 9.90) that comes in a bowl of crunchy granola, delicious helping of yogurt and finished with a generous amount of honey to sweeten the meal.

Mozzarella Sticks

Here's something which is a catch, the crispy and creamy Mozzarella Sticks (RM 12.00) are perfect for sharing and a side snack.

Fresh Juices

The fresh juices are off the menu which are available upon request/order.

Demi Breakfast

Demi Breakfast

Demi Breakfast (RM 15.00) is suitable for patrons who favour a light English Breakfast meal. Demi breakfast offers slices of Streaky Bacon, buttered mushrooms, a quarter cup of baked beans, crispy hash brown, toasts and finished with 2 Eggs of your choice (scrambled opted for order)

All is perfect on the plate..However, I didnt like the toast as it was too chewy and hard, I'm guessing this is an Indian bread commonly known as "bangkali roti" in Malaysia.

Veloute of Roma Tomatoes

Now here's a dish which is a must to order for lovers of tomato soup. Veloute of Roma Tomatoes (RM 15.00) offers Pulverised roasted roma tomatoes, cooked perfectly with home churned yogurt, topped with butter poached seabass totellini and finished off with basil oil and toasts to accompany the soup.

Initially we thought RM 15.00 is a little pricey for a bowl of soup, but being a fan of tomato soup, we decided it was worth a try, and no regrets were made that day for the tomato soup. With a rich aroma of creamy tomato, the bowl of soup leave us wanting for more.

Open Beef Rump Sandwich

Open Beef Rump Sandwich

The Open Beef Rump Sandwich (RM 28.00) is made out of grilled grass-fed beef rump with mustard aioli, accompanied with mesclum leaves on a thick brown toast which I assume to be wholemeal. A side of wedges is provided and additional mashed potatoes (RM 8.00) can be added for a more fulfilling meal.

Personally, I do not like the taste of the beef rump (even though I'm a beef lover), as it was too under cooked that it is almost raw (and...also a fan of medium rare meat), hence making the meat chewy and difficult to cut.

Apart from the sandwich, the mash potatoes are a catch and highly recommended.

Salmon and Scramble Egg Bagel

Salmon and Scramble Egg Bagel

We love bagels, and bagels are a must to try whenever we visit places which serves it. The Salmon and Scramble Egg Bagel (RM 15.00) is served with perfectly cooked scramble eggs with home-cured salmon and finished with a thin layer of cream cheese, accompanied by a side salad.

Love the eggs, Love the salmon, but..didnt like the bagel as it was too hard and chewy.

Full English Breakfast

Full English Breakfast

Earlier on, I recommended the Demi Breakfast for lighter choice of meal, and here The Full English Breakfast would be recommended for those who would prefer a bigger portion of serving for a meal.

The Full English Breakfast (RM 18.00) comes with slices of streaky bacon, two pieces of toast to accompany the well cooked buttered mushrooms, crispy hash brown, a quarter cup of baked beans, and here's the difference, an additional of momotaro tomato and real chicken/lamb sausage of your choice, finished with again two eggs of your choice.

Croissant

Since Basil is a subsidiary of Valerie Group which specializes in pastries, we decided to give it a try.

The Croissant (RM 4.50) has a light and fluffy texture, however the butter and preserves are only served upon request.

Pain au Chocolate

One look and we were attracted to this pastry. Pain au Chocolate (RM 4.50) is a pastry covered in chocolate cream, melted chocolate and chocolate shavings. Definitely worth a try for chocolate and pastry lovers.
